What
to Do with This Room?
By Carol Smith
The "What to Do with this Room?" symdrome is frequently
experienced by homeowners. It could be the bonus room over
the garage, the extra bedroom/office, or a spare room in the
basement which has been functioning as a storage room for
too many years.
Our homeowners, Diann and Michael, had a similar room, and
came to us for help. The diliemma they had was how to define
the purpose of the room. We immediatley saw big potential
because of the high ceiling and the beautiful curved wall
with six windows. Diann and Michael had defined their living
room and family room spaces, so what should this roomthat
was off the main foyer be?
Whrn we first evaulated the situation, the
room had a beautiful black baby grand piano and a light grey
sofa with two matching chairs. The piano provided the solution
to the dilemma; we could define this space as a music room.
The piano was already perfectly situated for acoustics and
looks in the bay area and did not need to be moved. The sofa
and chairs, however, needed some attention, and we were going
to need more furnishings.
